Minneapolis’ St. Mary’s Cathedral announces 10th Annual St. Alexis (Toth) Lecture May 12


MINNEAPOLIS, MN [MW Diocese Communications] — Dr. Bohdan Horbal, Ph.D, Curator for the Slavic and East European Collections at the New York Public Library since October 2018, will deliver the 10th Annual Saint Alexis (Toth) Lecture at Saint Mary’s Cathedral, Minneapolis, MN on Sunday, May 12, 2019 at 7:00 p.m.

Minneapolis St Marys Cathedral announces 10th Annual St Alexis Toth Lecture May 12Saint Alexis was the cathedral’s first resident pastor.  He was responsible for bringing the faithful of Saint Mary’s into Orthodox Christianity in 1892.  Prior to his repose in 1909, he was credited with the return of some 20,000 Eastern Rite Catholics to Orthodox Christianity.  He was glorified as a saint of the Orthodox Church in 1994.

Dr. Horbal’s topics will be “A History and Highlights of Orthodox and Rusyn Resources in the Slavic and Eastern European Collections at the New York Public Library” and “Lemko Folk and Religious Music on Main Stream American labels, 1928-1930.”

With a Ph.D. in History from the University of Wrocław, Poland and a Master of Library Science degree from Queens College, Dr. Horbal’s research interests include the evolution of Rusyn culture, in particular, that of the Lemkos, in both Europe and North America.

The public is invited to attend.  A festive reception will follow.
