The outer Altar cover is blessed with Holy Water and placed on the Holy Table. It is usually of more elaborate brocade material, symbolizing the glory of God. Both the covers then symbolize together the Altar Table is the Tomb of the Lord and the Throne. This covering is changed according to the liturgical seasons and their various colors. Only those articles that are essential are placed on the Altar Table.
