Music Workshop in Dayton a Success

DAYTON, OH [DOM] – On Friday and Saturday, November 18-19, 2022, over 60 Orthodox faithful from five states gathered at St Paul the Apostle Church in Dayton, OH for liturgical music instruction, prayer and fellowship.

The workshop, sponsored by the Diocese of the Midwest’s St Andrew of Crete Music Ministry, began Friday evening with the Dean of the Indianapolis Deanery, Archpriest Steven Kostoff, giving a talk on Orthodox worship and psalmody. On Saturday, Music Ministry Committee members Priest Gregory Ealy, Matushka Michelle Jannakos, and Matushka Vickie Kopistiansky led sessions for both conductors and singers. The day ended with Great Vespers sung antiphonally by two choirs.

In addition to this, St Paul’s Children’s Choir director, Mrs Amedee Royer, taught hymns from Great Vespers to over 20 children. It was a blessing to all the workshop participants to hear many of these children sing at the evening service.

Workshop participants and leaders include parishioners from St Paul’s in Dayton, OH, (Fr Gregory Ealy), St Gregory’s in Columbus, OH (Fr Steven Fraise), Christ the Savior/Holy Spirit in Cincinnati, OH (Fr Steven Kostoff), St Stephen’s in Lima, OH (Fr Joshua Coolman), St Athanasius in Nicholasville, KY (Fr Justin Patterson), Holy Trinity in Detroit, MI (Fr Lev Kopistiansky), and St Luke’s in Palos Hills, IL (Fr Paul Jannakos).
