Palos Hills, IL [MW Diocese Communication] – May 11, 2012 Fr. Andrew Harrison, rector of St. Luke the Evangelist Orthodox Church in Palos Hills IL, traveled to Nairobi, Africa to join with an OCMC mission team ministering in Africa.  Fr. Andrew will be there through June 1, 2012.

While in Nairobi, they visited the Orthodox Patriarchal Seminary of Archbishop Makarios III and attended Vespers.  Fr. Andrew visited with His Eminence, the Most Reverend Makarios, who is the Metropolitan of Kenya, in eastern Africa, under Patriarch Theodorious of Alexandria. The Diocese of Kenya has over 300 Parishes.

Fr. Andrew and the OCMC mission team left Nairobi and traveled to Bukoba in Tanzania in order to help the OCMC medical clinic in Bukoba set up an alcoholism treatment program by supporting the establishment of Alcoholics anonymous groups in local communities.  The medical clinic in Bukoba was established by the Greek Orthodox Church of Greece in 2006.

This trip will enhance the work of Felice Steward and Maria Rover, both OCMC missionaries in Tanzania.  They have made significant progress in this area where there is significant need for it.
