Detroit area parishes to celebrate Sunday of Orthodoxy at St. Lazarus Cathedral March 9

DETROIT, MI [COCC] — The Council of Orthodox Christian Churches of Metropolitan Detroit [COCC] will observe the Sunday of Orthodoxy with the celebration of Vespers at Saint Lazarus Serbian Orthodox Cathedral Ravanica, 4575 E. Outer Drive, Detroit at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 9, 2014.  Archpriest Roman Star, pastor of Saint Innocent of Irkutsk Church, Redford, MI, will preside.  Father Roman serves as president of the Orthodox Clergy Brotherhood of Saint John Chrysostom of Metropolitan Detroit and spiritual advisor to the COCC.  The homilist will be Archpriest George Shalhoub, pastor of the Antiochian Orthodox Basilica of Saint Mary, Livonia, MI.  The Orthodox Choir of Metropolitan Detroit, directed by Matushka Vickie Kopistiansky, will sing the responses.

The general public as well as Orthodox Christians of all backgrounds are invited to attend the service.  Refreshments will be served at the reception which will follow Vespers.

  • March 16, the Sunday of St. Gregory Palamas, Saints Peter and Paul Romanian Orthodox Church, Dearborn Heights, MI.
  • March 23, Sunday of the Veneration of the Cross, Saint Mary the Protectress Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral, Southfield, MI.
  • March 30, Sunday of St. John Climacus, Saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, Troy, MI.
  • April 6, Sunday of Saint Mary of Egypt, Holy Trinity Orthodox Church [OCA], Detroit, MI.
