Chicago cathedral to mark 20th Anniversary of the Glorification of St. John Kochurov October 30-November 2
CHICAGO, IL [MW Diocese Communications] — The 20th Anniversary of the Glorification of Saint John Kochurov of Chicago will be celebrated at Holy Trinity Cathedral, 1121 North Leavitt Street, Chicago Thursday, October 30 through Sunday, November 2, 2014.
According to Archpriest John Adamcio, Dean, the celebration will open with the Vigil on Thursday, October 30, at 7:00 p.m. His Grace, Bishop Alexander, Locum Tenens of the See of Chicago and the Midwest, will preside.
Bishop Alexander will be greeted at the cathedral entrance on Friday, October 31, at 9:30 a.m., after which he will preside at the Divine Liturgy.
On Saturday, November 1, the Blessing of the Animals will be held at noon, followed by presentations on the lives of Saint John and Saint Sebastian [Dabovich] of Jackson. Discussion will follow. The Vigil will be celebrated at 4:30 p.m.
On Sunday, November 2, His Grace, Bishop Matthias will be greeted at the cathedral entrance at 9:30 a.m., after which he will preside at the Divine Liturgy. Newly completed icons of Saints John Chrysostom and Basil the Great in the cathedral sanctuary, the work of Chicago iconographer Arlene Tilghman, will be blessed at the conclusion of the Liturgy. A banquet will follow at 1:00 p.m.
Saint John served as rector of the cathedral from 1895 until he returned to Russia in 1906. It was during his pastorate that the present cathedral, designed by renowned architect Louis Sullivan, was built and consecrated. He was the first priest to be martyred at the time of the Russian Revolution.
