In Memoriam: Gene Adamczyk

CHESTERTON, IN [MW Diocese Communications] — Gene Adamczyk, 79, long-time choir director at Saint Elizabeth the New Martyr Church here, fell asleep in the Lord on Tuesday, October 6, 2015 at the VNA Hospice Center, Valparaiso, IN.

Born March 17, 1936 in New Castle, PA to Walter and Tatiana Adamczyk, Gene is survived by his parish family and cousins in Pennsylvania and Ohio.

Gene attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania, after which he taught Russian to middle and high school students and music to elementary students from 1958 until 1991.  He also composed and translated music for use in the Church.  He also shared his talent in decorating intricate Ukrainian eggs, or pysanky, with many students, friends and fellow parishioners.

The Funeral service will be held at 7:00 p.m. at Saint Elizabeth Church, 545 West Indiana Ave., Chesterton, IN on Friday, October 9, served by Archpriest William Bass, Rector.  The Memorial Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at the church on Saturday, October 10, at 10:00 a.m.  Interment will take place at Saint Tikhon of Zadonsk Monastery Cemetery, South Canaan, PA.
