Register for November 3 webinar on the Ministry of the Parish Council
PITTSBURGH, PA [MW Diocese Communications] — On Tuesday, November 3, 2015 at 8:00 p.m. EST, the Diocese of Western Pennsylvania of the Orthodox Church in America will offer the first in a series of free webinars devoted to the ministry of the parish council.
Titled “Principles of Orthodox Parish Governance,” the webinar will be facilitated by Joseph Kormos, the Diocese’s Parish Development Ministry leader. Members of all dioceses and jurisdictions are invited to participate. There is no charge to participate in the webinar, but participants must register in advance on-line at https://attendee.gotowebinar.com/register/5830311409368849410.
“Collaborative leadership from clergy and laity is critical in creating a bright future for Orthodox parishes in America,” says Mr. Kormos. “This webinar series will explore and rethink parish leadership while examining the need to transition parish councils from the parish ‘fire department’ to a shared leadership body that cooperates with the priest to discover possibilities, discern priorities, drive change and prepare the parish for vital ministry.
“The series will help parish council members to energize and transform their parishes to live a Life in Christ, to foster an atmosphere of trust and collaboration between priest and council, to pursue continued service in important parish ministries after their council service ends, and to grow and deepen their faith and commitment instead of recoiling from parish life,” adds Mr. Kormos. “Specific topics for the first session include an introduction to Orthodox ecclesiology and parish governance, the mission/purpose of the parish and parish council, historical influences on American parishes, and typical council issues.”
