Concert of 20th century liturgical music to be held in Chicago Sunday, September 4
CHICAGO, IL [MW Diocese Communications] — Holy Resurrection Serbian Orthodox Cathedral, 5701 North Redwood Drive, Chicago, IL will be the site of a concert of 20th century liturgical music — “Sing for Joy to God our Strength” — at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 4, 2016.
Performing will be the Festival Choir of the Summer School of Liturgical Music of Holy Trinity Seminary, Jordanville, NY [SSLM] conducted by Nikolay Myshkin, Choir Director at the Church of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God in Moscow’s Kolomenskoe district and SSLM’s founding faculty member.
“The Summer School of Liturgical Music is marking its 25th anniversary this year,” said Archpriest Andre Papkov, SSLM Founder and Director and President of the Orthodox Christian Clergy Association of Chicago. “The Chicago site has been selected because of its central location. As part of the anniversary celebration the concert will be offered by the School’s Jubilee Festival Choir consisting of students, alumni and friends of the school.”
Among the composers whose works will be featured are Chesnokov, Trubachev, Ledkovsky, Konstantinov, Sviridov and others.
