CHICAGO, IL [DOM] – The feast of the Nativity of the Lord is quickly approaching and many parishes throughout the Diocese of the Midwest are hosting activities and events to spread joy their community’s.
CHICAGO, IL – The Diocese Cathedral had a full Saturday with ever piece of its property being used to serve God and assist others. In the early part of the day, two of the seven 12-step programs that are hosted at the cathedral held their meetings. The cathedral community then hosted its weekly meal, Cathedral’s Kitchen, for the poor with the church school children assisting, along with their annual cookie walk, and tours of the landmark cathedral. That morning the cathedral community also had the grand opening of its “Blessing Box” which was in partnership with St. Mary’s Hospital across the street. The box will serve as a community ministry where people can give and take needed items 24/7. The grand opening included a clothing drive, CTA passes, gift cards, and other goodies for guests. In the parking lot the cathedral community, in conjunction with the neighborhood, held it’s annual “Free Christmas Store” where donated toys and other children’s items are made available for families who could use extra help during this season. The evening end with Vigil.
CLEVELAND, OH – St. Theodosius Cathedral held their annual Nativity Concert bringing admirers from all over the Cleveland area. This concert is an annual event that the cathedral puts on in preparation for the Nativity feast. His Eminence Archbishop Daniel was in attendance for the event.
ROCHESTER HILLS, MI – With gratitude another year of the St Mark Church Christmas Food and Gift Program has been completed! To the Glory of God, 252 baskets were delivered, and gifts were provided for 485 children. Communities that were served with this ministry were Rochester Hills, Rochester Neighborhood House and Hamlin School; Redford, Beech School and McGowan School and Troy Baker School; Southwest Detroit, Orthodox Detroit Outreach and Academy of the Americas; Ukrainian Refugees, Ukrainian Crisis Response Committee; and numerous families over several counties.
