Altar Feast in Mentor, OH Welcomes Archbishop

MENTOR, OH [DOM] – On Friday, December 6, St Nicholas Church in Mentor, OH celebrated its altar-feast. For the occasion, the parish welcomed His Eminence Archbishop Daniel of Chicago and the Midwest.

The festal celebrations began with Great Vespers on the evening of Thursday, December 5 by Priest Mark Therrien, Rector, and Deacon Matthew. His Eminence was in attendance and accompanied by the Diocesan Chancellor, Archpriest Herman Kincaid. The Archbishop offered a word to the community as it began its altar feast.

The following day, His Eminence celebrated the Divine Liturgy and was accompanied by Archpriest Herman Kincaid, Priest Mark Therrien, Archpriest Andrew Clements, Archpriest Ilia Marzev, Priest Paisios Hamann, Protodeacon Samuel Slimak, Deacon Matthew Kaminsky, and Deacon Noah.

After the vesting of the hierarch, one of the parish’s servers, Adam Woodruff, was ordained to the ranks of reader and subdeacon. During his homily, His Eminence preached on St Nicholas as a model for living the Lord’s Beatitudes. In all, about 160 of the faithful were in attendance, which included both parishioners and also many faithful from other churches in the surrounding area. To conclude the celebrations, at the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy a festal Moleben to St Nicholas was served, and a fasting reception was held in the church hall.
