CHICAGO, IL [DOM] – On Thursday, July 13, His Eminence Archbishop Daniel of Chicago and the Midwest welcomed His Eminence Metropolitan Nikolai, Metropolitan of Eastern America and New York, First Hierarch of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia, to the Diocesan Cathedral, Holy Trinity Cathedral, Chicago, IL. Having just concelebrated the Divine Liturgy the day before, Archbishop Daniel was able to host the Metropolitan and his delegation for his first visit to the historic Cathedral.
Traveling with His Eminence was His Grace Bishop John of Caracas and South America, Archpriest Gregory Joyce, Secretary of the Mid-American Diocese, and other clergy of the Mid-American Diocese.
After the veneration of the holy altar and the holy Tikhvin Icon of the Mother of God, Metropolitan Nikolai expressed his gratitude for the invitation and reflected on his continued friendship with Archbishop Daniel and the Diocese of the Midwest. The Metropolitan presented the cathedral with a large icon of the New Martyrs of Russia as a gift marking the occasion. Archbishop Daniel welcomed Metropolitan Nikolai to his cathedral and presented him with a palitza with the Tikhvin Mother of God depicted on it.
Priest Alexander Koranda, Cathedral Dean, offered a brief tour and history of the cathedral. Following the veneration of icons, the Metropolitan and his delegation were invited to a reception held in their honor.
