Archbishop Performs Great Blessing of Water on Theophany

CHICAGO, IL [DOM Communications] – The great feast of Theophany was celebrated with immense joy on Wednesday, January 6, at the Diocesan Cathedral, Holy Trinity Cathedral. Archbishop Paul of Chicago and the Midwest presided over services for the feast. His Eminence was joined by Priest Alexander Koranda, Dean of Holy Trinity Cathedral, Priest Philip Maikkula, Priest-in-charge of St. Makarios Mission, Chicago, IL, and Protodeacon Thomas Keith of the cathedral.

His Eminence offered the sermon which focused on the feast of Theophany, particularly concentrating on the intimacy and community within the Holy Trinity and how that was revealed to the world by this feast. Archbishop Paul called on the faithful to examine this perfect community and love of the Holy Trinity and to draw closer to one another in this love. The entire sermon may be viewed below.

Following the Divine Liturgy, the Great Blessing of Water was held in the center of cathedral. At the conclusion of the blessing of the water, the entire temple, along with the faithful were blessed with the newly sanctified water. His Eminence expressed his gratitude for the strong attendance during the week and congratulated all those who were gathered for the feast.
