Award Given at Minneapolis Cathedral

MINNEAPOLIS, MN [DOM] – During an archpastoral visit to the Twin Cities, His Eminence Archbishop Daniel of Chicago and the Midwest presented the Dean of St Mary’s cathedral with a Mitre at Great Vespers on September 14. His Eminence spoke on behalf of the Holy Synod of the Orthodox Church in America, which granted Fr Andrew Morbey the right to wear the mitre at its Spring session.

In his remarks, Archbishop Daniel gave an overview of the history of the mitre as a clergy award and the spiritual significance of this award being made on the Feast of the Elevation of the Cross. The newly Mitred Archpriest Andrew reflected on the ways in which this award shares important common themes with the crowns of an Orthodox marriage: stewardship, perseverance, martyrdom.
