DETROIT, MI [DOM] – The Chicago-Tikhvin Icon of the Most Holy Theotokos, of Holy Trinity Cathedral and the Diocese of the Midwest, continued traveling in commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the return of the original Tikhvin Icon to Russia in 2004. With the blessing of His Eminence Archbishop Daniel of Chicago and the Midwest, the icon was received in the Michigan Deanery.
On Thursday morning, October 24, the icon arrived at Holy Trinity Church, Detroit, MI, and was received by Rector, Priest John York. Fr. John and Priest Alexander Koranda served the Divine Liturgy. After the liturgy, Fr. Alexander read an address from Archbishop Daniel who welcomed the clergy and faithful gathered to pray and venerate the Holy Icon. Following the Archbishop’s address, Fr. Alexander offered a brief reflection and fellowship was held in the hall.
Later that evening, the Icon arrived at St. Peter and St. Paul Cathedral, Detroit MI, where an akathist was served. Priest Phillip Dage welcomed Fr. Alexander and offered his gratitude for bringing the icon. Fr. Alexander conveyed Archbishop Daniel’s blessing to those gathered and shared some reflections on the icon.
