NIANGUA, MO [DOM] – Holy Resurrection Monastery, in Niangua, MO welcomed – for the 3rd time this year – a mission team of eight individuals from St. Luke the Evangelist Orthodox Church, Palos Hills, IL and the St. John Kochurov Chapel, New Lenox, IL.
Working May 2 – 6 at the monastery, the team was joined by Archpriest Peter and Matushka Cynthia Bodnar from Marshfield, MO and Priest Samuel Seamans, from St. Thomas the Apostle Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Mountain Home, AK.
Archpriest Howard Sloan from St. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Palos Park, IL coordinated the project with Archpriest Andrew Harrison, from the New Lenox Chapel providing the spiritual guidance.
Despite the torrential rains that brought flooding to the area, the team was able to complete the rebuild of a staircase leading down from the upper level, add onto a previously newly built ramp, complete painting the downstairs rooms, stripping/sanding railings and completing an assortment of other jobs throughout the monastery. Morning prayers and evening vespers were held daily with a presentation on “Solitude” by Mother Alexandra on the final evening.
Overnight accommodations for the group were in a lodge at a nearby Boy Scout camp.
Churches or individuals who would like to continue with renovation projects at the monastery should contact Mother Alexandra.
