The Dakotas Mission District is an administrative territory within the Minneapolis Deanery of the Diocese of the Midwest. Established in February 2023, it is located in the states of North and South Dakota along with areas of Northern Minnesota. It is overseen by His Eminence Archbishop Daniel of Chicago and the Midwest.
The primary objective of the Dakotas Mission District is to concentrate efforts and coordinate resources among both new and established parishes, missions, and chapels of all Orthodox jurisdictions within the district that wish to collaborate in a unified effort to evangelize the Dakotas. Given the unique and expansive rural plains of the region, where population centers are notably sparse, the district aims to employ innovative and creative strategies for spreading the Gospel. These approaches are being designed to be more effective than traditional mission work models typically used in more densely populated areas.

About
A dedicated group of both clergy and laypersons convenes regularly and participates in periodically scheduled summits to identify issues, assess needs, and share resources for evangelization efforts. A primary focus is addressing the lack of pastoral support for missions and small parishes dispersed across the vast region of the Dakotas Mission District (DMD).
You may read about the DMD’s our Inaugural Summit HERE. and its establishment HERE.
