WAYMART, PA [MW Diocese Communications] — Saint Tikhon’s Monastery in Waymart, PA will host a Bell-ringing Education Weekend on October 4–6, 2019. Organized by New Creation Bell-ringing, the event consists of two lectures, a demonstration at the monastery belfry, and hands-on ringing lessons for students who have registered in advance.
The event begins on Friday, October 4, 7:00 – 9:00 p.m., with a lecture on “The Five Essential Elements of a Successful Bell-ringing Ministry.” Geared toward clergy, seminarians, and bell-ringers, the content of this lecture aims to equip participants with the knowledge and tools needed to build a culture of serious church bell-ringing in their communities. A lecture open to the general public on “The Liturgical Art of Bell-ringing in the Orthodox Church” will be given on Saturday, October 5 at 10:00 am. This lecture will provide an overview of the history, sounds, and methodology of Christian bell-ringing, focusing on the bell-ringing traditions of the Orthodox Church. It will be followed by a demonstration at the Millennium Bell Tower. At Vigil and Liturgy in the monastery Church, students who have participated in this event will ring the tolls and peals.
