Minot, ND parish on the road to recovery!

MINOT, ND [MW Diocese Communications] — Igumen Anastassy [Fehr] acknowledges that, while the faithful of Saint Peter the Aleut Church here are “still not out of the woods” after massive flooding all but destroyed their church this past summer, they are fully on the road to recovery!

And, for the first time since June 2011, Father Anastassy served the Sunday Divine Liturgy in Saint Peter’s on Sunday, November 20 — “because heat and electricity had been installed,” he said. “The inside of the Church and the basement have not been restored yet, as we are negotiating with contractors.”

The flood, which left the entire church basement and much of the upper sanctuary completely under water, also destroyed Father Anastassy’s residence.

“Our parish also needs to build a small rectory next to the church, because affordable housing in Minot is unavailable, and the FEMA trailer in which I presently reside must be returned after 18 months,” Father Anastassy added. “In other words, we are still not out of the woods yet, and much needs to be done in our parish and the City of Minot.

“We wish to thank everyone for their support and generous donations,” Father Anastassy said. “But we still need help. Many are concerned that it might flood again next spring, which would be absolutely devastating for this city and our parish. We need your prayers!”

Donations may be sent directly to Saint Peter Orthodox Church, PO Box 845, Minot, ND 58702.
