Bishop Matthias opens Holy Week at Chicago’s Holy Trinity Cathedral

CHICAGO, IL [MW Diocese Communications] — Clergy and faithful from throughout the Chicago Deanery filled Holy Trinity Cathedral here on the evening of Palm Sunday, April 8, 2012, as His Grace, Bishop Matthias presided at the celebration of Bridegroom Matins.

Bishop Matthias will celebrate services at the cathedral and Christ the Savior Church throughout the week and on Holy Pascha.

At Christ the Savior Church, he will celebrate the Liturgy of the Presanctified Gifts on Great and Holy Monday, April 9, at 9:00 a.m., and Great and Holy Wednesday, April 11, at the same time.  He will celebrate Bridegroom Matins on Monday at 6:30 p.m. and on Great and Holy Tuesday, April 10, at the same time.

On Tuesday, he will celebrate the Liturgy of the Presanctified Gifts at Holy Trinity Cathedral at 9:30 a.m.  On Wednesday, he will celebrate Bridegroom Matins at the cathedral at 6:30 p.m.

At the cathedral, he will celebrate the Vesperal Liturgy on Great and Holy Thursday, April 12, at 10:00 a.m. and Matins with the Reading of the Passion Gospels at 7:00 p.m.  On Great, Holy and Good Friday, he will celebrate the Royal Hours at the cathedral at 9:00 a.m. and Vespers at 2:00 p.m.

At 6:30 p.m. on Friday, he will celebrate Matins with the Singing of the Lamentations at Christ the Savior Church, where he will also celebrate the Vesperal Liturgy of Saint Basil the Great on Great and Holy Saturday at 10:00 a.m.

On Pascha night, he will preside at the celebration of Nocturns and the Midnight Matins and Divine Liturgy at Holy Trinity Cathedral, beginning at 11:20 p.m. Saturday evening.

At 1:00 p.m. on Pascha afternoon, he will celebrat Agape Vespers at Christ the Savior Church, where he also will celebrate the Divine Liturgy on Bright Monday at 9:00 a.m.

The faithful of Holy Trinity Cathedral and Christ the Savior Church welcome all visitors.
