Bishop Matthias celebrates 40th anniversary of ordination to the priesthood

CHICAGO, IL [MW Diocese Communications] — On Monday, June 18, 2012, His Grace, Bishop Matthias celebrated the Divine Liturgy at Holy Trinity Cathedral here marking the 40th anniversary of his ordination to the holy priesthood.

Shortly after his graduation from Christ the Saviour Seminary, Johnstown, PA and his marriage to Pani Jeannette, who fell alseep in the Lord in 1997, Bishop Matthias was ordained by His Grace, Bishop John [Martin] of the American Carpatho-Russian Orthodox Diocese in June 1972.  For many years he served as rector of Saint Michael the Archangel Church, Saint Clair, PA.

Concelebrating with Bishop Matthias at the anniversary Liturgy were clergy throughout from the Chicago Deanery.

During his homily, Bishop Matthias reflected on the priestly ministry, emphasizing that every member of the Church has been called by God to serve others in the name of Our Lord, Jesus Christ.

Following the Divine Liturgy, the celebration continued at a luncheon in the cathedral hall.

Bishop Matthias’ anniversary will also be noted at the meeting of the Diocesan Council in Chicago on Friday, June 22.

May God grant Bishop Matthias many, many years of continued archpastoral service!
