Bishop Matthias to attend triple celebration at Holy Myrrhbearers Monastery August 25-26

OTEGO, NY [MW Diocese Communications] — His Grace, Bishop Matthias, will be one of several hierarchs participating in the celebration of the the 35th anniversary of the founding of Holy Myrrhbearers Monastery here August 25-26, 2012.

The weekend will also mark the 40th anniversary of the monastic profession of its Abbess, Mother Raphaela, and the 50th anniversary of one of its nuns, Mother Michaela, to the monastic tonsure.

His Eminence, Archbishop Tikhon of Philadelphia and Eastern Pennsylvania, will preside at the celebration of the Divine Liturgy at the Dormition of the Virgin Mary Church, 53 Baxter Street, Binghamton, NY on Saturday morning at 9:30 a.m.  In addition to Bishop Matthias, other concelebrants will include His Eminence, Archbishop Anthony of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in the USA [UOCUSA]; His Grace, Bishop Melchisedek of Pittsburgh and Western Pennsylvania; His Grace, Bishop Michael of New York and New Jersey; and His Grace, Bishop Daniel of the UOCUSA.

A banquet will follow at Saint Michael’s Center [American Carpatho-Russian Orthodox Diocese], 296 Clinton Street, Binghamton.

At 5:00 p.m. Saturday evening, dinner will be served at Holy Myrrhbearers Monastery, 144 Bert Washburn Road, Otego, NY, followed by the celebration of the Vigil at 6:00 p.m.  On Sunday morning, the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at the monastery at 10:00 a.m.

Orthodox Christians of all jurisdictions are warmly invited to share in this milestone event of monasticism in North America.
