St. Nicholas Church, Lawrence, KS, receives second Church Planting Grant

LAWRENCE, KS [MW Diocese Communications] — For the second consecutive year, Saint Nicholas Church here was awarded a Church Planting Grant from the Department of Evangelization of the Orthodox Church in America.

According to Priest John Parker, who chairs the Department of Evangelization, the parish will receive the $20,000.00 one-year grant to support the full-time ministry and missionary work of Priest Joshua Lollar, priest-in-charge.  As with all planting grants, the parish has made the commitment to match this sum.

Established in September 2002, Saint Nicholas Church has a current attendance of some 50 faithful who meet on the second floor of the Ecumenical Campus Ministries Building at 1204 Oread Street, on the campus of the University of Kansas.

One other parish — the Nativity of the Lord Mission, Shreveport, LA — received a second-year grant, while first-year grants were awarded to Holy Archangels Church, Annapolis, MD, and Holy Apostles Church, Lansing, NY.  The Diocese of Mexico also received a planting grant for ongoing missionary work.
