St. Mary’s Cathedral, Minneapolis, celebrates 125th Anniversary
MINNEAPOLIS, MN [MW Diocese Communications] — On the weekend of Sunday, October 13-14, 2012 — the Feast of the Protection of the Holy Virgin Mary, OS — the faithful of Saint Mary’s Cathedral here celebrated the 125th Anniversary of their parish.

Among the weekend’s highlights were the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy, a festive brunch and an anniversary banquet, a youth service project, and the awarding of a Synodal Gramota to the Cathedral.

The Divine Liturgy was served by His Grace, Bishop Mark of Baltimore, together with Archpriests Andrew Morbey, Cathedral Dean, and Myron Manzuk; Priests Richard Flom and Benjamin Tucci; Deacons Jason Ketz and David Kostick; and a host of altar servers.  Blessed to wear the orarion in the Diocese of the Midwest were Alexi Demtchouk, Steven Thell, Alexander Worontzoff-Dashkoff, Thomas Thell, Sergei Taracido, Steven Parlow and Samuel Stoughton.   At the conclusion of Liturgy, a picture of Bishop Mark and the parish’s Church school children was taken.  Following the dismissal, Bishop Mark presented the Synodal Gramota to Church Board officers Michael Kokosh, William Stenach, Warren Griggs and Josephine Hubbard.

The well-attended banquet at the local Nicollet Island Pavilion provided a wonderful opportunity for fellowship and reflections on the history of the Cathedral.  Councilman Kevin Reich, a good friend and neighbor of the Cathedral, brought citations from the Governor and State Legislature and the Mayor and City Hall.  Among the former pastors and spouses present and honored were Archpriests Thaddeus Wojcik, Myron Manzuk, Paul Wesche and Andrew Jaye.

As part of 125 hours of community service in honor of the anniversary, youth from the Cathedral undertook a project with ‘Feed My Starving Children.’  A number of similar service activities are planned within the next months.
