Preventing substance use/abuse among youth topic of December 8 Chicago forum

CHICAGO, IL [MW Diocese Communications] — “How to Talk to Your Kids About Substance Use/Abuse” is the theme of a breakfast forum for Chicago-area Orthodox Christian parents slated to be held at Holy Resurrection Serbian Orthodox Cathedral here on Saturday, December 8, 2012.

Sponsored by the Orthodox Christian Coalition for Healthy Youth [OCCHY], a recently established pan-Orthodox initiative whose ministry has been very positively received by parishes and faithful throughout the region, the forum will feature a lineup of exceptional speakers, in addition to a lenten breakfast hosted by the cathedral’s Circle of Serbian Sisters.

The Rev. Athanasios Papagiannis, LCSW, a licensed social worker from Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, will offer the opening presentation, “You and Your Child.”  Dr. Lisa A. Razzano, Ph.D, CPRP, Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Illinois Center on Mental Health Services Research and Policy, will further develop the theme in a presentation titled “Youth and Development Issues in Harm Reduction.”  Rounding out the program will be Cmdr. Jason Leavitt, Park Ridge [IL] Police Department, who will speak on “The Best Anti-Drug is You.”

A one-dollar donation is requested from all participants, who are asked to make reservations by calling 708-298-9770.  Additional information may be found on OCCHY’s web site at www.healthyyouth.com.
