New iconography blessed at St. Panteleimon Church, Summit, IL

SUMMIT, IL [MW Diocese Communications] — A new Holy Shroud [plaschanitsa, epitaphios] and iconostasis icon of the Mystical Supper were blessed at the conclusion of the Deanery Lenten Vespers at Saint Panteleimon Church here Sunday, April 7, 2013.

Priest Herman Kincaid, Chicago Dean and rector of Saints Peter and Paul Church, Burr Ridge, IL, presided at the Vesper service, during which Archpriest Thomas Mueller, rector of Saints Cyril and Methodius Church, Milwaukee, preached on Luke 6:20.  After the new icons were blessed, Archpriest Myron D. Manzuk, rector, thanked those who donated them and acknowledged parishioner Arlene Tilghman, who painted the icons.  In recent years, Ms. Tilghman has undertaken a number of iconographic works that have beautified the church, including icons on the bottom row of the iconostasis, a large icon of the Resurrection behind the altar, and major icons of the Nativity and Saint Panteleimon, among others.  Father Myron also announced that in the near future, icons of the miracles of Christ would be installed on the side interior walls of the church.

Parish faithful hosted attendees from across the Chicago Deanery at a lenten dinner after the service.

Other clergy concelebrating included Archpriest John Adamcio (Holy Trinity Cathedral, Chicago); Archpriests John Matusiak, Mykola Bodnarchuk, and Joseph Kopka, (Saint Joseph Church, Wheaton); Archpriest Alexander Kuchta (Holy Resurrection Church, Palatine); Priest Stephen Hrycyniak (Saint Nicholas Church, Kenosha, WI); Priest Elijah Mueller (Saint Makarios Mission, Chicago); Priest Gregory Bruner (Archangel Michael Church, Burbank); Priest John Jones [Saints Cyril and Methodius Church, Milwaukee, WI); Deacon Robert Northrup (Saint Panteleimon Church, Summit); Deacon John Kornafel (Saints Peter and Paul Church, Burr Ridge); and Deacon George Potym (Saints Cyril and Methodius Church, Milwaukee, WI).  Also in attendance was Priest Danial Doss (Holy Apostles Mission, Normal, IL).  Responses were sung by a choir comprised of deanery faithful under the direction of Matushka Paula Manzuk.
