In Memoriam: Georgeann Shaw
PALATINE, IL [MW Diocese Communications] — Georgeann Shaw, a long time member of Holy Resurrection Church here, fell asleep in the Lord after a brief illness on the morning of September 7, 2013.
Georgeann served most notably as a teacher in the parish Vacation Church School and was actively engaged in many other parish activities and ministries. In November 1995, she suffered a serious staph infection which led to the loss her lower legs and fingers. She returned to her family and parish only after months of surgeries and physical therapy at the Chicago Rehab Institute of Chicago. At that time, members of many parishes throughout the Chicago Deanery and across the Diocese of the Midwest had made contributions to a special fund administered by the parish to assist with expenses.
“Georgeann never allowed the experience of illness to define her life,” said Archpriest Alex Kuchta, Rector of Holy Resurrection Church. “Not only did she face this battle with courage and grace, but after her recovery she continued to be extremely active in her personal and parish life, serving as Church School coordinator and teacher for many years, participating in annual CROP walks, and attending a number of summer institutes at Saint Vladimir Seminary. She also was an avid horseback rider and competitor, re-learned how to drive a car, and was an active partner in her husband’s security business.”
Born to Evelyn and the late Frank Kosobud on October, 24, 1956, she attended primary and secondary schools in Arizona. She held a B.A. and Masters degree in Music performance from Arizona State University. Georgeann was the loving wife of Barry and mother of Katie and Alex.
A wake for Georgeann will take place at Holy Resurrection Church, 1449 North Quentin Rd., Palatine, IL, on Wednesday, September 11 from 3:00 to 9:00 p.m. with a Panikhida slated to be celebrated at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be celebrated on Thursday, September 12, at 10:00 a.m. with interment following at Elmwood Cemetery, Chicago, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Holy Resurrection Church are requested.
May Georgeann’s memory be eternal.
