Konevets Quartet of St. Petersburg to sing concert in Redford June 12

REDFORD, MI [MW Diocese Communications] — The Konevets Quartet of St. Petersburg, Russia will sing a concert at Saint Michael the Archangel Orthodox Church, 26375 W. Chicago Road, Redford, MI on Thursday, June 12 at 7:00 p.m.

The quartet was founded in 1992 by four young musicians from the St. Petersburg Conservatoire who sang in the choir of the Konevets Monastery of the Holy Nativity on Konevets Island in Lake Ladoga (www.konevetsquartet.com).

The quartet’s core repertoire is the sacred music of the Russian Orthodox Church from the 10th to the 20th centuries.  It also includes Russian folk and military songs and settings of Russian poetry by classical composers.  The quartet has sung in leading international festivals in Russia, Western Europe and the United States, and its recordings have received high acclaim from critics and the music press.

In the June 12 concert, the quartet will perform sacred music in Saint Michael Church, followed by a folk music presentation in the adjoining Saint Michael Cultural Center.
