Update 9/16: Divine Liturgy to be served Tuesday morning

BROADVIEW HEIGHTS, OH [MW Diocese Communications] — The 53rd Assembly of the Diocese of the Midwest will be held at Archangel Michael Church here on Tuesday, October 7, 2014.

Immediately preceding the Assembly, a Special Diocesan Assembly will be held for the sole purpose of nominating a candidate for the vacant See of Chicago and the Midwest.  The name of the nominee will be presented to the Holy Synod of Bishops for canonical election.  This Special Assembly will be followed by the regular Assembly, during which the business of an annual Diocesan Assembly meeting will be addressed. Regular, special Diocesan Assemblies to convene Tuesday, October 7, 2014It is suggested that delegates from outside the Cleveland area arrive on Monday evening, October 6.  If possible, return flights should be scheduled no earlier than 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 7.

On Monday, October 6, the Bishop’s Council will meet at noon, while the Diocesan Council will hold a dinner meeting at 5:00 p.m.  On Tuesday, October 7, the Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at 7:00 a.m., followed immediately by the Special Assembly, as noted above.

Registration Forms may now be downloaded from the Diocesan Assembly webpage, here.  Forms and fees must be returned by Monday, September 22.

Accommodations for the assembly have been procured at the Crowne Plaza Hotel Cleveland South, 5300 Rockside Road, Independence, Ohio, at a rate of $89.00.  Reservations need to be booked by Monday, September 22.  After this date there are no guarantees with regard to rooms and/or a discounted rate.  Please make your reservations as soon as possible by calling (866) 282-4988, making sure to inform them that you are part of the Diocese of the Midwest group.  Most delegates will only need a room for Monday, October 6, but our block includes rooms for those who also need to stay on Sunday, October 5 or Tuesday, October 7.

For those flying in, please take the hotel’s shuttle from the airport to the hotel.  The Assembly will arrange ground transportation between the hotel and Archangel Michael Church, for those paying the $25 fee.

Call for Reports

All parishes are asked to submit reports.  Parish report forms may be downloaded here and returned by e-mail to Mr. Philip Sokolov at chancery@domoca.org by Tuesday, September 9.  Please note that parish supporting membership as of September 1, 2014 should be indicated on the form.  This figure will be reported to the Orthodox Church in America and cannot be corrected after October 7, 2014, as it will be used for 2015 assessment calculations.

Reports from the directors of departments and programs, noting goals for the past year, how the goals were reached, and future goals, are also being requested.  Reports from monastic institutions should include a census, brief summary of activities since the 2013 Assembly, projects and goals for the coming year, and a summary financial report for August 1, 2013, to July 31, 2014.  Reports from monasteries should be submitted directly to His Grace, Bishop Alexander, at 927 North LaSalle Blvd., Chicago, IL 60610.  Deanery reports should include a brief overview of the state of the deanery as a whole, deanery activities for the past year, and other concerns and comments.
