Priest runs marathon for parish expansion project
COLUMBUS, OH [MW Diocese Communications] — Priest Matthew Moriak, Rector of Saint Gregory of Nyssa Church here, will be a running in the US Air Force Marathon in Dayton, OH on Saturday, September 20, 2014. He will be running the full 26.2 mile marathon in memory of his mother, Pani Jeannette Moriak, who fell asleep in the Lord over 17 years ago after battling leukemia. He is also running to help raise funds for the Saint Gregory’s parish expansion project.
“The parish is planning to expand the size of our church and parish hall,” said Father Matthew. “Saint Gregory’s was founded over 30 years ago as a mission to minister to local college students. While maturing into a full-grown parish, the parish has stayed true to its original calling, helping to keep college students connected to their faith.”
Saint Gregory’s also conducts an active outreach program that serves four meals per week, in addition to providing canned goods, clothing and other items, to neighbors in the community in need. There is a goal to eventually provide at least one meal per day.
All donations made in support of Father Matthew’s run will go directly to the parish expansion project in memory of Pani Jeannette, with thanks for prayers and support. Donations will be accepted through October 20 on-line at www.youcaring.com/other/fr-m-s-marathon-for-mom/210535.
