Detroit’s Council of Orthodox Christian Churches to sponsor Lenten Vesper services
DETROIT, MI [COCC] — The Council of Orthodox Christian Churches of Metropolitan Detroit [COCC] will hold the first in its series of Vesper services on the five Sundays of Great Lent on March 1, the Sunday of Orthodoxy, at 6:00 p.m. at the Antiochian Orthodox Basilica of Saint Mary, 18100 Merriman Road, Livonia, MI.
The service will be conducted by members of the Clergy Brotherhood of Saint John Chrysostom of Metropolitan Detroit. The Orthodox Choir of Metropolitan Detroit will sing the responses during the service.
The homilist will be Archpriest Dr. Michael Oleska, retired pastor of Saint Alexis Mission, Anchorage, AK, professor and author.
The remaining four services in the series will be held according to the following schedule.
- March 8, Sunday of Saint Gregory Palamas, at Saint Stevan Decanski Serbian Orthodox Church, 14235 E. 11 Mile Road, Warren, MI.
- March 15, Sunday of the Holy Cross, at Saint Thomas Church [OCA], 29159 W. 10 Mile Road, Farmington Hills, MI.
- March 22, Sunday of Saint John Climacus, at Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church, 36375 Joy Road, Westland, MI.
- March 29, Sunday of Saint Mary of Egypt, at the Descent of the Holy Ghost Romanian Orthodox Church, 31500 Ryan Road, Warren, MI.
