IOCC youth leadership conference to open in Chicago

ELK GROVE VILLAGE, IL [IOCC] — International Orthodox Christian Charities is sponsoring its “Serv-X-treme” youth leadership conference at the Holiday Inn, 1000 Busse Road, Elk Grove Village, IL August 10-14, 2015.

“Serv-X-treme is a Christ-centered service gathering designed to build youth leaders by developing and strengthening their individual understanding of Christ-centered service and by gaining a greater awareness of Orthodox Christian philanthropy through participation in theoretical and practical hand-on service activities,” said Daniel Christopulos, IOCC Country Representative-USA.  “The week-long gathering is designed with sensitivity to the current work being done in the US by the Orthodox hierarchs, dioceses, parishes and faithful and equip the participating youth to support, and even help lead, these current efforts of Orthopraxy.  The gatherings also expose the youth to new collaborative possibilities that might be realized in their own dioceses and parishes.”

The Chicago area event is modeled after the inaugural national conference convened in Minneapolis, MN in August 2014, which attracted 25 youths from 23 dioceses of the Assembly of Canonical Orthodox Bishops of the USA.

The Kulis Foundation of Chicago is funding the event.
