In Memoriam: Archpriest Kurt Anthony Spengler

LOMBARD, IL [MW Diocese Communications] — Archpriest Kurt Anthony Spengler, who was attached to Saint Panteleimon Church, Summit, IL, fell asleep in the Lord on Friday, May 5, 2017 after an extended illness.

Born on May 16, 1941, Father Kurt Anthony was ordained to the priesthood on June 19, 1989 by His Grace, Bishop Vsevelod of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and subsequently was received into the Orthodox Church in America.  A retired teacher with the Chicago Public Schools, in which he taught for 35 years, he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from DePaul University, a Bachelor of Laws degree from LaSalle Extension University, and a Mastor of Arts degree in Library Science from Rosary College.

Father Anthony is survived by his wife, Matushka Roberta [Struckman] Spengler; their children Mark [Eve] Spengler, Heidi [Luis] Posada, and Emilian [Julie Castro] Spengler; and several grandchildren.  He was predeceased by their son Erich [Kristi] Spengler.

Visitation will be held at Saint Peter and Saint Paul Church, 6908 South County Line Road, Burr Ridge, IL from 4:00 until 9:00 p.m. on Monday, May 8.  The Funeral Service for a Priest will be celebrated at 7:00 p.m.  Visitation will continue at the church at 9:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 9.  The Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m.  Interment will be held at noon at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Frankfort, IL.
