CHICAGO, IL [MW Diocese Communications] — The Fifth Annual Saint Macrina Conference of the Diocese of the Midwest will be held at Saint Iakovos Retreat Center, Kansasville, WI August 10-11, 2018.
The conference theme — “In Peace Let Us Pray: Christian Diakonia of Peace” — will be developed by Deacon Nicholas Denysenko. In his keynote address, he will discuss how “diakonia” in the ordained diaconate and catechetical work contribute to giving a peaceful image of the presence of Christ and the work of the Holy Spirit in the Church. He will also explore how we can prevent ourselves from importing the vain and acrimonious divisions of the world into our Church life and how we can help awaken people to the forgiveness and peace Christ gave with the Holy Spirit on the day of Resurrection.
Other instructors include Anna Strelka, Presvytera Rebecca Luft, Symeon Magnusson, the Protodeacons of the Chicago Deanery, and others.
Conference participants who desire to discuss potential petitions for ordination to the diaconate will be afforded time to meet with His Grace, Bishop Paul.
The Conference will run from noon on Friday, August 10 and close in the early afternoon on Saturday, August 11. Those who wish to stay at the Retreat Center on Thursday evening, August 9, are asked to contact the Retreat Center at 262-864-9080.
The $190.00 registration fee includes lodging, meals, and all Conference materials and instruction. Potential participants should complete the registration form available online.
