Council of Orthodox Christian Churches of Metropolitan Detroit announces 2019 Sunday Lenten Vesper schedule
DETROIT, MI [COCC] — The Council of Orthodox Christian Churches of Metropolitan Detroit [COCC] will hold the first in its annual series of Vespers services on the five Sundays of Great Lent on March 17, 2019 — the Sunday of Orthodoxy — at 6:00 p.m. at Saint Lazarus Serbian Orthodox Cathedral, 4575 East Outer Drive, Detroit, MI. Archpriest Laurence Lazar, President of the Saint John Chrysostom Clergy Brotherhood of Metropolitan Detroit, and other metro-area clergy, will concelebrate. Archpriest Andrew Yavornitzky will deliver the homily, while the responses will be sung by the Inter-Orthodox Lenten Vespers Choir, directed by Matushka Victoria Kopistiansky. Children from area parishes and college students representing area Orthodox Christian Fellowships are invited to bring icons to carry in the traditional Procession of Icons.
The remaining four Vesper services, all of which begin at 6:00 p.m., will be held on
- March 24, Eve of the Annunciation, at Holy Transfiguration Church [OCA], 36075 West Seven Mile Road, Livonia, MI. Archpriest James King will deliver the homily.
- March 31, Sunday of the Holy Cross, at Saint Clement Ohridski Eastern Orthodox Church, 19600 Ford Road, Dearborn, MI. Priest Gabriel Bilas will preach.
- April 7, Sunday of Saint John Climacus, at Saint George Antiochian Orthodox Church, 2160 East Maple Road, Troy, MI. Archpriest Michael Butler will deliver the homily.
- April 14, Sunday of Saint Mary of Egypt, at Saint George Greek Orthodox Church, 43816 Woodward Avenue, Bloomfield Hills, MI. Priest Teodor Petrutiu will preach.
