Remembering Archbishop Paul: First Services Held in Chicago

CHICAGO, IL [DOM] – The first services for His Eminence Archbishop Paul took place today, Bright Tuesday, April 26 in Chicagoland.

The day began with the vesting of Archbishop Paul which was preformed by His Grace Bishop Daniel of Santa Rosa, Diocesan Administrator, Archpriest Paul Jannakos, Diocesan Chancellor, Archpriest Alexander Kuchta, Chicago Dean, Archpriest Herman Kincaid, Corporate Secretary, and Priest Alexander Koranda, Cathedral Dean. At the conclusion of the vesting, Bishop Daniel led the Memorial Service for Bright Week and Archbishop Paul was then transferred to his cathedral.

Upon arrival to the cathedral, bells rang out greeting the reposed hierarch as he entered the temple. Fr. Paul led the Paschal Panikhida and the responses were sung by the attending clergy.

At the conclusion of the service, Bishop Daniel offered words reflecting on the difficult ending of Archbishop Paul’s life, but yet the great and joyful reward he received reposing on the saving day of the Resurrection. “His Eminence taught us each and every day – from the time of his diagnosis, until his very last breath, he was teaching us.”

The funeral service will take place this evening at 6:00 P.M. The Hierarchical Liturgy will take place tomorrow, Bright Wednesday, April 27, at 9:00 A.M.
