St. Andrew of Crete Music Ministry Presents Liturgical Music Workshop at St. Paul’s Orthodox Church in Dayton, OH

DAYTON, OH [DOM]The St. Andrew of Crete Music Ministry of the Diocese of the Midwest is excited to announce a two-day liturgical music workshop, titled Liturgy: the Work of the People, hosted at St. Paul’s Orthodox Church in Dayton, Ohio. This enriching event will take place on October 25-26, 2024, and is open to all who wish to deepen their understanding and participation in Orthodox liturgical music.

The workshop offers participants a chance to delve into the essential connection between music and liturgy through various rehearsals that will prepare singers for Great Vespers and Divine Liturgy. Great Vespers will be celebrated on Friday and Saturday evenings, and a Divine Liturgy will take place on Saturday morning. The celebrating priest at Saturday’s services will be Archpriest Herman Kincaid, Chancellor.

The workshop aims to be both engaging and instructive, enhancing participants’ understanding of Orthodox worship. A standout feature will be the opportunity to sing antiphonally during Saturday’s services. Vocal instruction will be led by Mrs. Amedee Royer and Matushka Elizabeth Frase, while choral conducting and pedagogy will be provided by Priest Gregory Ealy, Protinica Michelle Jannakos, and other members of the St. Andrew of Crete Music Ministry committee.

Additionally, a youth choir will be part of the weekend. On Saturday afternoon, Mrs. Amedee Royer will teach select hymns to the youth, who will perform them at Great Vespers that evening. Children aged five and up are welcome to join.
