Summer Diocesan Council Convenes

CHICAGO, IL [DOM] – The annual summer meetings took place on Thursday, June 9 and Friday, June 10. The meetings were held at a hotel near Midway Airport in Chicago, IL, under the leadership of His Grace Bishop Daniel, Locum Tenens of the Diocese of the Midwest, regarding the life of the diocese.

The Bishop’s Council met in the morning and throughout the afternoon on Thursday. The meeting gathered Bishop Daniel, along with Archpriest Paul Jannakos, Chancellor, and the Deans of the deaneries; Archpriest Andrew Clements, Cleveland Dean, Archpriest Alexander Kuchta, Chicago Dean, Archpriest Timothy Sawchak, Kansas City Dean, and Archpriest Dusan Koprivica, Michigan Dean. Later that evening the Finance Committee held a meeting at the Chancery in Burbank, IL.

On Friday morning, the Diocesan Council held their summer meeting in a local hotel in, Chicago, IL. The meeting was chaired by His Grace Bishop Daniel. In his report, His Grace reflected on his appointment of Administrator of the diocese and his impression of the diocese throughout that time. He specifically noted the love that he saw from the diocese for Archbishop Paul, and the organization of the diocese during difficult times.

The Diocesan Chancellor, Archpriest Paul Jannakos, gave his report noting the attention and work that clergy and faithful engaged in regarding the care for Archbishop Paul in his final days, and surrounding his funeral. Fr. Paul also thanked Bishop Daniel for his guidance and availability during this difficult time in the life of the diocese. The Chancellor also reported on various aspects of diocesan life. Reports were given by the Treasurer, Finance Committee, Metropolitan Council, the Office of the Communications, and the various ministries of the diocese.

The meeting continued with reports from the Metropolitan Council representatives, St. Macrina Orthodox Institute, as well as hearing reports from the Deans.

The agenda for the 61st Diocesan Assembly was approved. The Diocesan Assembly will be held on Monday, July 18, in conjunction with All America Council in Baltimore, MD.
