The Waters of Lake Erie Sanctified by Local Parish

MARBLEHEAD, OH [DOM] – On Saturday, January 9, 2022, Archpriest Andrew Bartek, Rector of Holy Assumption Orthodox Church, blessed Lake Erie for the third time in as many years.

Though the wind was chilly and temperatures quite frigid, over 50 gathered for this annual blessing.  Following the service, everyone gathered for a hot meal in the church’s social hall.

“The Beacon”, a local newspaper, featured this event in their publication. Their coverage can be viewed here.

Holy Assumption Orthodox Church is the oldest Orthodox Church in Ohio. Its founders came from Eastern Europe to work in the local stone quarries, orchards and on fishing boats.  The parish is currently planning the 125th anniversary of the community that will be celebrated in 2023.
