LORAIN, OH [DOM] – The parish of St. Peter and St. Paul Church in Lorain, OH celebrated the 110th anniversary of their parish this past Sunday, April 30. His Eminence Archbishop Daniel of Chicago and the Midwest lead the celebrations of his community in northern Ohio.
His Eminence was joined by Archpriest Joseph McCartney, Rector, Archpriest Basil Stoyka, and Protodeacon Edward Kolenda. During the Little Entrance, Fr. Joseph was elevated to the rank of Archpriest. After the Divine Liturgy His Eminence announced that Fr. Basil had been award the Miter by the Holy Synod of the Orthodox Church in America. Fr. Basil is the first to be honored with this award in the diocese since the Holy Synod reinstituted the award several years ago. Mrs. Katherine Jacob was presented with a Diocesan Gramota for her labors in the parish. Following the presentations, a festive meal was held in the parish hall.
The parish officially began on November 30, 1913 when a group of immigrants assembled in local home in Lorain with the blessing of His Eminence Metropolitan Platon. Since then, the parish has strived for over a century being an Orthodox presence in greater Cleveland.
