BURBANK, IL [DOM Communications] – The newly formed St. Andrew of Crete Music Ministry of the Midwest Diocese is holding its first event inviting musicians from around the diocese to participate. A Zoom Roundtable is being held in a couple of weeks which will focus on various topics and solicit feedback from participants to help form the ministry.
Protinica Michelle Jannakos, the head of the newly formed diocesan ministry shared that members of this committee have been meeting monthly since August and have been able to start moving in a positive direction. “In September, a survey was sent to all parish priests and choir directors. The responses indicated several major areas of interest including: Music Selection (Both 4 part less than 4 parts); Improving Vocal Techniques; and Music Sight Reading Skills. Opportunities to network with other musicians, gather and produce online resources and provide mentorship to directors are other activities that were suggested.”
As part of this new initiative a Zoom Roundtable is planned for Saturday January 23, from 12:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. CST. “Most of the discussions will take place in small break out rooms to allow for more interaction, questions and suggestions to move this ministry forward.”
A Zoom invitation will be sent out to all choir directors of the diocese. Those diocesan directors and /or church musicians that would like to be a part of this virtual gathering are asked to contact Protinica Michelle Jannakos at michellejannakos@gmail.com.
“We pray that our musical ministry will be fruitful in ‘Uniting the faithful of the Diocese of the Midwest to discover, live, and share the life in Christ!’”
The formation of the liturgical music committee is part of an ongoing effort by His Eminence Archbishop Paul in “Equipping the Saints for the Work of Ministry” (Ephesians 4:12).
