CHICAGO, IL [DOM] – This past Sunday, August 21, 2022, Christ the Savior Church, located in downtown Chicago, celebrated their 25th Anniversary as a community. The celebrations was marked by the hierarchical visit of His Grace Bishop Daniel of Chicago and the Diocese of the Midwest.
The celebration took place both on Saturday evening and Sunday morning with His Grace presiding at both services. Serving with the bishop was Priest Jonathan Lincoln, Rector of Christ the Savior Church, and Deacons Andrew Bender and Paul Garklavs. The choir was directed by Reader Philip Sokolov.
Following the Divine Liturgy, Bishop Daniel presented the parish with a Synodal Gramota on the occasion of their anniversary. After the dismissal with the cross, a meal was held in the parish courtyard where reflections were offered on the special commemoration.
On August 16, 1997, the parish’s patronal feast day, the church held its first service. The installation of the iconostasis, completed just in time for Pascha of 2007, represented years of labor and generosity, as well as the movement from a fledgling mission to full-fledged, thriving parish. In May 2008, Archbishop Job consecrated the temple to the Glory of God. Archbishop JOB (+2009) presented his vision for yet greater witness to this part of the city: “My wish for Christ the Savior Church is that it will be an ark of salvation for many and a beacon of Orthodoxy. I hope that it will always be a community of vigorous outreach to all those who seek the fullness of the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ and participation in the life of his Kingdom.”
