CHICAGO, IL [DOM] – On Saturday, May 6, with the blessing of His Eminence Archbishop Daniel of Chicago and the Midwest, Archpriest Herman Kincaid, Diocesan Secretary, announced a Special Diocesan Assembly. The topic of the meeting will be to resolve an offer on the property of the former Archangel Michael Church in Burbank, Illinois.
In a letter to Rectors, Diocesan Council Members, and Auditor of the Midwest, Fr. Herman announced the coming meeting and format of the special meeting: “therefore, in accordance with my statutory responsibility as Diocesan Secretary (cf. Diocesan Bylaws, IV.4.ab), I hereby announce that His Eminence, Archbishop Daniel, with the consent of the Diocesan Council, convokes a Special Diocesan Assembly to meet on Tuesday, 9 May 2023, at 7:30pm CT (8:30pm ET). Since this coincides with our annual Diocesan Clergy Convocation, the Special Assembly will take place in a hybrid format: on site in Darien, Illinois, for the voting clergy delegates attending the convocation, and via Zoom for voting clergy and lay delegates elsewhere.”
The letter recalls: “this parish—established in the South Side of Chicago in 1909 and moved to the southwest suburb of Burbank in 1983— finally closed its doors in late 2021. Moreover, after a short period at the vacant rectory of this property, the Archbishop’s Residence and the Diocesan Chancery were relocated to St George Cathedral in Chicago last fall.”
The sole agenda item for this Special Diocesan Assembly is a “Yes” or “No” vote on the recommendation of the Diocesan Finance Council to accept the offer on the table and move forward with the sale of the Burbank property, as required by the Diocesan Bylaws.
