DAYTON, OH [DOM] – St Andrew of Crete Music Ministry will sponsor a Liturgical Music Workshop at St Paul Church, Dayton, OH, November 10-11. His Eminence Archbishop Daniel of Chicago and the Midwest will give the opening talk on Friday at 7 pm.
The workshop will focus on the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy, exploring both the various hymns and melodies sung for it, as well the history and development of the rite itself and how it differs when served alone by a priest. The workshop will end on Saturday with Great Vespers sung antiphonally by two choirs. Participants are welcomed (but not required) to stay through Sunday’s Hierarchical Divine Liturgy.
Instruction will cover many areas. Matushka Elizabeth Frase, a member at St Gregory’s Orthodox Church in Columbus, OH and a professional vocalist, will instruct participants in vocal technique Saturday morning. Also in the morning, Deacon Vitaly Permiakov, assistant professor of Liturgical Theology at St Vladimir’s Seminary, will conduct a workshop for deacons, subdeacons, and servers with a special emphasis on how to serve at a Hierarchical Divine Liturgy. In the afternoon Mrs Amedee Royer, a member at St Paul Church in Dayton, and Matushka Michelle Jannakos, choir direct at St Luke’s Orthodox Church in Palos Hills, IL, will lead a vocal workshop for children.
