CHICAGO, IL [DOM] – A memo was sent from the desk of the Archbishop of Chicago and the Midwest on June 18, to the clergy of the Midwest Diocese in regards to the upcoming feast of the Tikhvin Icon of the Mother of God on June 25 and June 26.
In this memo His Eminence Archbishop Daniel of Chicago and the Midwest announced that the Diocese of the Midwest will have the honor of hosting His Beatitude Metropolitan Tikhon, Archbishop of Washington and Metropolitan of All America and Canada, for this important feast in the life of the diocese.
“As you are aware, next week (June 25-26), we will commemorate the 20th Anniversary of the Transfer of the Icon of the Mother of God of Tikhvin from Chicago to its original home at Holly Dormition Monastery, Tikhvin, Russia. This celebration will be led by His Beatitude Metropolitan TIKHON.”
The Archbishop also announced that a number of the bishops of the Orthodox Church in America will be attending this significant event.
“It is my sincere hope that you will be in attendance as we honor the Theotokos, Sovereign Lady and Queen of our God-protected Diocese. I am grateful that you have been encouraging the faithful of your communities to also participate in this special moment of prayer and celebration.”
