INDIANAPOLIS, IN [DOM] – On Tuesday, September 18, the Indianapolis Deanery welcomed the Chicago Tikhvin Icon at St. John the Forerunner Church, Indianapolis, IN. With the blessing of His Eminence Archbishop Daniel of Chicago and the Midwest, the icon is traveling to the various deaneries throughout the diocese to increase opportunities for prayer and unity within the diocese.
The icon was received that evening by Archpriest Zachariah Trent, Rector. An Akathist was sung before the icon and the faithful had the chance to venerate the most holy Theotokos and offer their prayers before her. Priest Alexander Koranda conveyed the greetings and blessings of the Archbishop to the clergy and faithful gathered. Fr. Alexander also gave a brief history of the icon at Holy Trinity Cathedral, Chicago, IL, and reminded those gathered that despite the large size of the diocese, every time we gaze upon a copy of the Tikhvin icon, we are brought closer together in our mission to serve the Lord.
The visitation of the icon is a part of the 20th anniversary celebration that is taking place throughout the year in the diocese. The icon has already made several visits throughout the country and will continue to travel throughout the hear. Learn more about the 20th anniversary and the icon’s travels here.
