CHICAGO, IL [DOM] – Two concerts will taking place in Chicagoland over the next couple of months that will feature Nativity hymns and a memorial concert honoring a church musician.
The “Nativity Concert” is an annual concert that is lead by the PAN Orthodox Choir of Greater Chicago under the direction of Ms. Gordana Trbuhovich. This concert features choirs and singers from all over the Chicago singing Nativity hymns from the traditions of the various Orthodox traditions. The event will be held on Friday, December 20 at 7:30 pm, at St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church in Cicero, IL. There will be a free will offering to benefit the International Orthodox Christian Charities.
In the beginning of the new year, a concert will be held by the Society of Saint Romanos the Melodist entitled, “Fr. Ivan Moody Memorial Concert.” The concert will be held at St. Andrew Greek Orthodox Church on January 19 at 4:30 pm honoring the music of composer Fr. Ivan Moody, whose untimely passing sent a wave of sadness throughout the classical music world. The program will consist of sacred choral works by Fr. Ivan and a world-premiere of Kurt Sander’s With Eyes Unveiled for choir and cello, a newly commissioned work. The Society of Saint Romanos the Melodist is sponsoring this event and to featuring one of Chicago’s premiere chamber choirs -The St. Romanos Cappella under the direction of Peter Jermihov. A pre-concert lecture will be given at 3:30 PM by composer, Dr. Kurt Sander.
