Midwest Diocese Honors the Mother of God in Annual Tikhvin Icon Feast

CHICAGO, IL [DOM] – The Diocesan Feast of the Wonderworking Tikhvin Icon of the Mother of God was celebrated by His Eminence Archbishop Daniel of Chicago and the Midwest on June 25 and June 26 at the Diocesan Cathedral, Holy Trinity Cathedral, Chicago, IL.

The feast began with the celebration of the All Night Vigil on the Wednesday evening. The Archbishop was joined by clergy from around the diocese. The Chicago Deanery Male Choir sang the responses under the direction of Reader Philip Sokolov.

On Thursday, June 26, the Hierarchical Liturgy was presided over by the Archbishop. Serving with His Eminence were Archpriest Herman Kincaid, Chancellor, Priest Alexander Koranda, Cathedral Dean, Priest Esteban Vazques, Mitered Archpriest Vladimir Kovalchuk, Priest Joel Wilson, Priest Jacob VanSickle, Priest Anthony Saunders, Priest Joseph Whittaker, Deacon Paul Garklavs, Deacon Nikola Tambur, Deacon John Eller, and Deacon Timothy Heinbokel. The choir was directed by Reader Vladimir Lymar.

Following the Divine Liturgy, the Archbishop welcomed and expressed his gratitude to all who came to keep this important feast. Fr. Esteban and Dn. Paul were congratulated on the occasion of the ordination anniversary. The Archbishop especially welcomed Fr. Joel and his parishioners who made a pilgrimage from Holy Annunciation Mission, St. James, MO to the Cathedral for this important occasion.

Following the Divine Liturgy, a festive meal was held in the Cathedral hall.
