Archbishop of Chicago Celebrates Pentecost at Diocesan Cathedral

CHICAGO, IL [DOM] – On Sunday, June 8, the Great Feast of Holy Pentecost, His Eminence Archbishop Daniel of Chicago and the Midwest celebrated the divine services at the Diocesan Cathedral, Holy Trinity Cathedral, Chicago, IL.

Saturday, June 7, marked the 133rd anniversary of the founding of Holy Trinity Cathedral, the first Orthodox community in Chicago. Priest Alexander Koranda, Cathedral Dean, served Divine Liturgy for Soul Saturday remembering the founders of the holy temple. Later that evening, the Archbishop presided over the Vigil service for Pentecost and was assisted by the Cathedral Clergy.

The next day, the feast of Pentecost, Archbishop Daniel presided over the hierarchical liturgy. Serving with His Eminence were Fr. Alexander, Priest Esteban Vazquez, Archpriest Tarasiy Maxim, and Deacon Paul Garklavs. The Cathedral Choir was directed by Ms. Olga Garklavs. After the consecration of the Holy Gifts, Subdeacon Timothy Heinbokel was ordained to the diaconate.

Following the Divine Liturgy, Great Vespers was served with the Kneeling Prayers.

At the conclusion of the services, His Eminence congratulated the newly ordained deacon and Fr. Alexander presented him with a gift from the Cathedral community. Fr. Alexander also thanked Olga for her dedication as the Cathedral Choir Director for the past several years as the Cathedral searched for a permanent Choir Director.
