Choir Workshop in Minneapolis Focuses on Vocal Technique

MINNEAPOLIS, MN [DOM] – A choral workshop, sponsored by the St. Andrew of Crete Music Ministry of the Diocese of the Midwest, was held from February 23-24. The workshop was held at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Minneapolis, MN and run by Pan-Orthodox Choir Ministry of Minneapolis.

Participants from all over the country gathered Friday evening for a session led by Priest Gregory Ealy, Rector of St. Paul Church in Daton, OH. In the morning of February 24, singers studied vocal technique instruction from voice teacher Mr. Tom Speckhard. This was done in four one-hour sessions in which participants learned the unique understanding of how the voice works, providing examples and exercises. Later that day, two sessions took place in the Cathedral.

The workshop ended later that evening. One of the participants commented, “It was absolutely the most beneficial and enjoyable vocal workshop I have attended. It was rewarding to hear the difference the exercises made in our sound. Tom was not only wonderful at conveying and illustrating technique, [but] fun too.”
